Bride Takes a Laird by Kara Griffin [REVIEW]

SPORTOCHICK’S MUSINGS: Author Kara Griffin created a lovely book worth reading.

Laird Magnus Cameron is more than irked by his king’s command to accept a border baron’s daughter for his wife. He has more problems at home than dealing with his trivial overlord’s demands. The inconvenience disrupts his duty as the laird to his clan, but at first glance, Magnus cannot deny his attraction to the winsome beauty Kendra of Clan Graham.

When Kendra’s father accepts a bride price from their blackhearted neighbor, she must find a way to return the coins. Only her father’s ailment prevents him from remembering where he put them. Can she find the lost coins before her father’s lands are besieged by their warlord neighbor? Kendra prays for a miracle and is saved when the king commands that she marry a man of his choosing. She hadn’t expected her miracle to come in the form of an utterly handsome Highland Laird―Magnus Cameron.

When all he wants to do is delight in the presence of his bonny wife, Magnus is beset with finding his brother’s murderer, scuffles with the Chattans, and petty clan matters. Her kisses and caresses allow him to forget the troubles that thwart him but his duty as laird comes first. When Kendra returns to her family’s land, Magnus is faced with making a difficult decision―confronting his enemy or winning the heart of his wife.

Will these Highland vows and vengeance hold the promise of love and redemption for Magnus and Kendra?

Note: This series is part of Dragonblade’s Flame line, so this is a scorching-hot read with open-door steam.

Kendra is a sweetheart with a kind heart who is used to being independent and speaking her mind. I love this about her character. Unfortunately, she has a father who is ill and causes her a lot of trouble. How she maneuvers the grumpy Magnus, her ill father, her missing brother, their estate, and the villain of this story was well written and made a great storyline.

Magnus’s difficult decision with confronting his enemy or getting his wife really speaks for his character growth in the story when he makes his decision. Of all the characters in this book Magnus, his mother and his brother Jake had the most growth in character enriching the storyline and creating a lovely book worth reading.

I give it 4.5 STARS
